Helen Mirren found bliss in Colbert kiss

Helen Mirren says “it was absolute heaven” to kiss her longtime crush Stephen Colbert on his show Tuesday night.

“I have been not-so-secretly madly in love with Stephen Colbert for a long time, really madly in love with him,” Mirren said from New York during an interview for her upcoming thriller Eye in the Sky, opening March 25.

“He’s so smart and so funny and he seemed so nice,” Mirren said, adding she “grabbed my opportunity” as she walked onto The Late Show With Stephen Colbert set, snaked one arm around his neck and, with a sly smile, gave him a firm kiss.

It was an unplanned moment, Mirren said, who reasoned “if I don’t do it now,” she might miss her chance. “I didn’t have any idea until I walked out and I saw him.”

For his part, Colbert looked pleasantly gobsmacked. “I can’t remember any of my questions,” he confessed as they sat down to chat.

Mirren, who is married to American filmmaker Taylor Hackford, said her affection for Colbert was further cemented when she opened a goody bag from the show and found a $100 gift card to make a donation to the New York City school of her choice.
