Ujung Kulon National Park is located in the westernmost part of Java Island, Indonesia. This national park area also includes areas of Krakatoa and several smaller surrounding islands such as Pulau Handeuleum and Peucang Island. This park has an area of about 1.206 km ² (443 sq km of which are marine), starting from the promontory of Ujung Kulon to the Indian Ocean.
The park became the first National Park which was inaugurated in Indonesia, and has also been inaugurated as a protected World Heritage by UNESCO in 1992, because the area covers a vast protected forest. To date approximately 50 to 60 rhinos live in these habitats.
Initially Ujung Kulon is an agricultural area in some time until finally destroyed and depleted its entire population when Krakatoa erupted on August 27, 1883 which ultimately convert the area back to forest.
Permission to enter this National Park can be obtained at the Office of National Parks in the City of Labuan or Tamanjaya. Lodging can be found on the island and Peucang Handeuleum.
